"Mantikes; small things, they are, but so deadly when provoked. Your master should take note..."

- Elder Orikas of Sarilia to the emissary of Achaea, after a forceful request for war volunteers

Blindingly quick and exceedingly vicious, mantikes are territorial cats who more than make up for their small size with outright ferocity. Possessing large claws at the ends of stocky, muscular limbs, a single mantika can gnaw a fully grown cow to the bone in mere minutes. Affectionately (or perhaps ironically) known as 'little lions' in common parlance, they are sometimes kept as gladiatorial attractions and curios by kings and wealthy merchants.

While their pelts are prized by hunters for their long water-resistant fur, most know better than to risk pursuing a mantika, especially during mating season. Though cautious and more prone to run away from larger creatures, a cornered mantika (or one whose cubs are threatened) will not hesitate to stand and fight. When this happens, its speed, tenacity and surprising strength ensure its opponents survive only with the most grievous of wounds.
